I tested my town's "78% of people are behind on retirement" stat by asking 12 guys at the diner
The local news ran that 78% number for a solid week, so I asked 12 regulars at the diner in my town how much they had saved, and 9 of them said some version of "enough, I think." Turns out the 78% came from a survey that only counted people who had under $50k in a single 401k account, which is not most of these guys. Anyone know how to actually find the source survey when a news station just flashes a number on screen?
