Picked the $3 app over the $50 one for tracking my water bill and it was actually more accurate

Last month I compared my city utility data between a freebie and a paid tracker and the free one caught a $12 overcharge the fancy one missed, anyone else find that cheaper tools sometimes do the boring stuff better?

Heard a mechanic say the same thing about cheap code readers versus dealer ones.

My 2018 Honda Civic's cheaper OBD scanner found a failing alternator the dealer's fancy diagnostic tool missed entirely. Paid $40 for the cheap one, the dealer wanted $300 for theirs. Not all expensive stuff is better for basic maintenance like that. Sometimes the simple tools just get the job done without all the extra fluff.
