PSA: That viral 'crime spike' map from last month had a decimal point error

I pulled the raw CSV from the city's open data portal after seeing the map shared 40k times. The rate for precinct 7 was listed as 12.4 per 100k, but the actual count was 1.24, they shifted the decimal when exporting. I emailed the analyst and they confirmed it at 9am yesterday. Anyone else catch similar math slips in these shareable charts, or do we just trust the pretty colors too fast?

Precinct 7 has like 80k residents, so did the decimal slip change the actual number of incidents from roughly 1,000 down to 100, or was it the rate per 100k that got inflated for the whole city map?
