That $500 'miracle' air purifier was just a fan with a filter I could've bought for $40
Last month I bought this expensive air purifier from a startup after seeing their viral ad about removing 99.9% of particles. Got it home, cracked it open, and it's literally just a box fan taped to a HEPA filter. Checked the specs and the CADR rating was worse than a $40 unit at Home Depot. Has anyone else caught these companies selling basic tech at 10x markup?

Are you really that mad over $500 though? It cleans the air either way, just pay the tax for the hype.

...and honestly I read somewhere that a lot of these "air purifying" gimmicks barely move enough air to make a difference anyway. So paying a $500 hype tax on something that might not even work that well feels kinda rough. Would rather just open a window tbh.

Whoa, $500 for a glorified fan @felixlane? That's insane.
