That survey claiming 80% of people love remote work had me fooled until my team quit
My company's internal poll last quarter said 80% of us wanted to stay remote, so I pushed my boss to keep our team fully online. But then 4 out of 6 people on my crew left in 3 months because they actually missed the office but felt pressured to say otherwise in the survey. How do you know when survey numbers are real versus people just telling HR what they think is safe to say?

Hold up, four out of six people quit? That's wild. I mean I get it though, those anonymous surveys feel anything but anonymous when HR is the one reading them. People are scared to rock the boat, especially if their boss is pushing for remote work and they don't want to seem ungrateful or weird for wanting the office back. It's like everyone is playing a game of guessing what the "right" answer is instead of being honest. Your team just proved that numbers on a spreadsheet mean nothing if you don't dig into why people are giving those answers.

Got an old crew together for beers after hours. No BS. Just asked flat out what was bugging them. Got more real talk in one night than six months of surveys.

@felixhenderson you said "people are scared to rock the boat" but honestly I think it's simpler than that. Most people just fill out those surveys in 2 minutes while waiting for their coffee, not really thinking about it. Then they're shocked when HR actually acts on their throwaway answers.
