The 2019 CDC mask study everyone quotes was retracted in 2022

I was scrolling through a health forum last Tuesday and saw someone cite it like gospel to prove masks don't work. Turns out the original analysis had a coding error that flipped two data points. Took me 20 minutes to dig up the retraction notice. Why do outdated stats keep getting shared when the correction is right there? Has anyone else run into a widely cited figure that just won't die?
