The county survey that claimed 85% support for the new tax, then quietly revised it
Last week my town council cited a survey saying 85% of residents backed the new stormwater fee. I called the county office and asked for the raw data. Turns out they only polled 200 people, all from one zip code near the flood zone, and the original number was 58%. They updated the PDF after I asked, but the council already voted. How do we get these numbers checked before they become policy? Has anyone else caught a stat that got quietly fixed after the fact?

Whoa, hold on there. I mean, is this really the hill you want to die on? A survey that got tweaked from 58% to 85% sounds bad, but maybe somebody just made a typo with the decimal point or mixed up two different charts. Town councils mess up paperwork all the time, and it doesn't always mean they're hiding something. You asked for the data and they gave it to you, so that's kind of a win, right? Before you go full conspiracy mode, maybe just check if the final vote actually changes anything for the worse. If the fee is only like five bucks a month, I don't see the point in getting all worked up over a number on a PDF.
