I finally realized I was using my tape measure backwards for years

I was measuring a window frame for new curtains and kept coming up 2 inches short on every cut. My buddy looked over and pointed out I was reading from the 1-inch mark instead of the end. Has anyone else made a dumb tool mistake like this?

Honestly, I respect the commitment to being exactly wrong every single time. That's a special kind of consistency most people can only dream of. Ngl, I once spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why my level was saying the floor was tilted, turns out I was just holding the level upside down and ignoring the bubble. You're in good company my friend.

And then there's the guy who blamed his hammer for missing the nail.

My neighbor tried that same logic on a stud finder once. He kept pressing it against the drywall and it wouldn't beep, so he figured we just had an open concept house with nothing to hang pictures on. Turns out the battery was dead and he'd been waving it around for a good ten minutes like some kind of magic wand. I still bring it up every time I see him with a tool in his hand.
