Pro tip: Stop believing those 'viral plant hack' videos on TikTok

I saw this video claiming if you put a banana peel in water and water your plants with it, they'll double in size. Tried it for 2 weeks on my pothos in Chicago. It just attracted fruit flies and the leaves started yellowing. My neighbor who actually works at a greenhouse laughed and said it's just sugar water that rots. Switched to a basic $8 liquid fertilizer from Home Depot and the thing is thriving in 10 days. Anyone else fall for one of these wild DIY garden claims?

Did you also see that thing about putting cinnamon on the soil to prevent mold? I tried it once and all it did was make my apartment smell like a bakery for a week, plus the cinnamon just sat on top of the dirt and never did anything. Regular air circulation and not overwatering fixed my mold issue way faster.

Laughed out loud reading this because I did the exact same thing last winter. Ground cinnamon all over my pothos pot like I was seasoning a chai latte, and two days later I had a crusty orange layer that did absolutely nothing for the fungus gnats I was actually trying to get rid of. Ended up having to scrape it all off because it started trapping moisture underneath and made things worse. Baking soda also didn't work for me by the way, tried that too like an idiot. Just fans and letting the soil dry out between waterings was what actually saved my plants.
