Shoutout to my neighbor who told me to check my dryer vent after a lint fire scare

My neighbor saw smoke coming from my laundry room last Tuesday and banged on my door. He had me pull the dryer out and the vent tube was completely clogged with lint, maybe 4 years worth. I had no idea it could build up that bad since I clean the filter every load. Anyone else had a close call with a dryer vent they ignored for too long?

Whoa, holy crap, four years? That's insane. I clean my filter after basically every load too, but I never even thought about the vent hose. Now I'm gonna be paranoid and probably check mine this weekend.

@emmaking also check the lint trap seal. If it's warped, it'll let crap past and clog the hose faster.

Check the vent where it exits the house too. Bugs or leaves can build up a screen mesh. Had a buddy find a bird nest in his once. Took forever to get it all out. That's the hidden fire hazard nobody talks about.
