That video claiming you can charge your phone with a lemon and a penny got 2 million views last week

I actually tried it with a whole bag of lemons from the store and after 45 minutes my phone showed 0% and the lemon was smoking a little, has anyone else gotten that experiment to work or is it just clickbait?

Oh yeah, I tried something similar with a potato and a copper wire once and my phone just vibrated angrily at me for ten minutes before dying completely. Must be some kind of science magic that only works in perfect conditions or something. Guess we're all just out here making smoked fruit for no reason.

And honestly the whole potato battery thing is basically just a party trick at this point. I've seen people get so into the idea they start talking about running their house off a bunch of root vegetables in series. Maybe if you're powering a single calculator from 1992 it works, but modern tech laughs at potatoes.

Nah, I gotta push back a little here. The potato thing is real, it just takes the RIGHT setup. You can't just jam a copper wire in a potato and expect magic. You need two different metals like copper and zinc, and you gotta connect them in a circuit. It's not charging your phone, it's making a tiny bit of power for a low energy thing like an LED clock. People online hype it up like you're gonna power a blender and that's just not how it works. So yeah, your phone dying makes total sense, it's way too power hungry for a spud. Don't give up on the smoked fruit though, that stuff is delicious.
