That viral 'airport tray' trick had 2 million views and my cousin tried it in Phoenix, here is what really happens
So my cousin sends me this video last Tuesday, some guy saying you can skip the whole security line by putting your stuff in a separate tray and walking through a different lane, and it had like 2.3 million views. She tried it at Sky Harbor in Phoenix on her way to Denver and got pulled aside for 25 minutes while they went through her bag twice. My neighbor Lou, who worked 31 years for TSA at O'Hare before he retired in 2019, watched the clip with me and just shook his head, said no real rule works like that, the lanes all feed the same machine and the agents watch for people trying to game the line. I poked around and found the actual TSA page on screening, plus a 2023 news story where a guy got a $500 fine for cutting a checkpoint queue in Vegas. What bugs me is the comments, thousands of people saying it worked for them with zero proof, no airport named, no date. I really want to find where these clips come from because somebody is making money off people's travel stress. Has anyone here actually traced one of these trick videos back to a real source, or am I just yelling into the void?
Watched the same thing happen with those "secret menu" hacks at restaurants, somebody posts a fake one, it blows up, and nobody ever checks if it's real. Bet if you looked at the accounts posting these airport clips they're all new with a link in bio selling something. Lou's right too, that's how the whole system is built, you can't outsmart a line that all goes to one place.
