That viral post about the CPS worker texting a parent got me checking, and the source was one Facebook screenshot from 2022
I keep seeing a claim going around that a caseworker texted a mom "we know where you live" during an investigation, and it has thousands of shares with people swearing they know someone it happened to. So I sat down at my kitchen table in Tucson last Saturday with my laptop and tried to trace it back, and every single version of the post links to the exact same screenshot posted on Facebook in 2022, with no name, no city, and no court record attached. I tried the county's public case lookup and the state agency's press page and got nothing, then ran the quote through a reverse image search and found it had already been flagged by two fact checkers back then. My choices were to just share the debunk and look like I'm defending the agency, or write up the whole trail so people could see the steps themselves, and I picked the second one even though it took two hours and a lot of dead links. The sketchy part is that most of the people sharing it never open the original post, they just see the screenshot and hit share, and the trail ends right there. Has anyone else tried tracing one of these back to the first post and found it dies at a dead-end screenshot like this?
