Drove 2 hours to see that viral 'giant sinkhole' in Kentucky and it was just a drainage ditch
Last weekend I took my truck down to Muhlenberg County after seeing that article about a massive sinkhole swallowing a barn. Article said it was 50 feet wide and growing... got there and it's maybe 10 feet across and clearly just an old strip mine pit filling up with water. Local guy told me the barn collapsed from rot, not the ground. Has anyone else driven out to one of these viral spots and found the story was way bigger online than in real life?

Man, people really love to hype up nothing these days. I bet that whole article was just someone trying to get clicks off a muddy hole and a broken-down barn. Honestly, sounds like you saved yourself a headache by at least seeing that it was just a drainage ditch, not some world-ending crevice.

Totally feel you on this. I drove four hours to see that supposed "alien crash site" in New Mexico a couple years back (the one that went viral on TikTok) and it was just a busted up old water tower with some spray paint on it. The whole internet makes everything look like the Grand Canyon when it's really just a muddy ditch with a good photo filter. Sucks that you wasted the gas, but at least you got a story out of it.

My buddy drove three hours to see that famous ghost town and it was just two boarded-up gas stations.
