That article about 'green' cleaning products was pure fiction

I saw a viral piece claiming you could clean anything with just baking soda and vinegar. Tried it on a nasty stove top spill last Wednesday and ended up with a foamy mess that didn't actually clean anything. Spent 45 minutes scrubbing with dish soap anyway. The article linked to some blog from 2019 with zero real sources. Anyone else find that combo actually works for anything?

Whoa hold up, I actually disagree with you on this one. I use baking soda and vinegar together all the time and it works great for me. Not for everything obviously like your stove top spill sounds like a grease situation which needs degreaser not a science experiment. The trick is knowing what job each thing does baking soda is for scrubbing smells and mild stains vinegar cuts through hard water and soap scum. When you mix them they just neutralize each other into water and bubbles which is useless for cleaning. You gotta use them separately not together like scrub with baking soda paste first then spray vinegar after rinsing. Ive cleaned my bathroom sink and shower this way for years and it works way better than store stuff.

Oh man wait, so you're saying using them separately is the real trick? I gotta ask, how long do you let the baking soda paste sit before you rinse and then hit it with the vinegar? I've been trying this method but I think I'm rushing the steps or something, my grout still looks kinda dingy.

Grout needs a stiff brush not just paste. Let it sit 15 minutes.
