That Facebook post about plastic water bottles in my car giving me cancer? A guy at a car show in Reno broke it down for me and now I feel dumb
A post claiming leaving water bottles in a hot car leaches dioxins kept showing up on my feed, so I shared it anyway last month. At a car show in Reno, a guy with a chemistry degree pointed to the actual source, a 2001 email hoax that has been debunked for 20 years. The FDA says the plastic used in drink bottles does not contain dioxins at all. I went home and read the whole Snopes page. What is the one viral health claim you keep seeing no matter how many times it gets debunked?
A guy with a chemistry degree at a car show is the most Reno thing I have ever heard. My mom still sends me that one about microwaving plastic wrap even though the FDA page she's reading from says the exact opposite.
