That video claiming drinking lemon water at 5am boosts metabolism is so sketchy
My cousin sent me this TikTok from a 'wellness coach' saying if you drink warm lemon water before 5:30am your metabolism jumps 30%. I looked up the study they cited and it was from 2008 with like 12 people total. Has anyone actually tracked their own results from this or is it just another grift?

My buddy tried it for two weeks. He just got really tired of getting up at 4:45.

Wader71, I think your buddy's probably right about the 4:45 thing being miserable. But that enamel damage from lemon water is a real concern, the acid can soften your teeth over time if you sip it all morning.

Did you see that doctors actually warn about drinking lemon water on an empty stomach because it can mess with your enamel over time? I read an article from a dentist who said the acid is worse than soda for your teeth if you sip it slowly. Plus, your metabolism naturally spikes in the morning anyway so a drink isn't going to magically add 30%. The whole 5am thing just sounds like early morning marketing to me. These influencers love cherry-picking tiny studies with no real proof.

That 12 person study from 2008 is barely even a study at that point. 30% jump in metabolism is a huge claim to make from basically nothing. And honestly, even if it did boost your metabolism a little, waking up at 5am just to drink lemon water sounds like a fast track to being cranky and tired all day. I saw a registered dietitian breakdown this exact trend on Instagram and she said your body's metabolism is way more complicated than just a morning drink. Plus that enamel thing is real, I had a friend who wrecked her teeth doing a similar lemon water cleanse a few years back. Green.iris already said it, your metabolism naturally picks up in the morning anyway so you're basically trying to fix something that isn't broken. I'd save the effort and just drink coffee at a normal hour.
