That viral 'fireproof blanket' video from last month still makes me laugh
You know the one I'm talking about, where a guy wraps his car in a fiberglass blanket as a wildfire approaches? Some news site ran with it like it was a genius hack. I spent 12 years fighting fires in San Diego County, and that blanket would've melted onto the paint in about 4 minutes. The polyester backing ignites around 400 degrees, which is way below what a brush fire pushes. Has anyone here actually seen a test on those things, or is it all just marketing garbage?

@hannahcraig is spot on about cheap blankets failing fast, but honestly that fireproof blanket video is a whole different level of dangerous hype. I've seen the tests and yeah, those things are basically just fiberglass with a polyester backing that turns into a melted mess way before any real fire even gets close.

Feel your pain on this one, people don't get how fast those cheap blankets fail.

And the pilling is unreal too, after like two washes they look awful. Honestly you're better off just saving up for one good blanket instead of buying three bad ones.
