That viral story about the $2,000 stimulus check from the IRS is total garbage
My aunt shared it on Facebook yesterday and I spent 20 minutes tracking down the original source, which was a satire site from 2022. Has anyone else had to explain to family members why they shouldn't believe every headline they see?

Told my mom the same thing. Showed her Snopes once and she stopped sharing them.

Huh. I get where you're coming from, but honestly that approach never worked for me. My dad just called Snopes "biased" and dug in harder. Feels like some people see fact-checking as a challenge or an attack on their identity. If you've got a mom who actually listens and adjusts, that's pretty lucky. Most folks I know just find a new source that tells them what they already want to hear.

Yeah but is it really that deep though... Someone sharing a Snopes article is just sharing info, it's not like they're attacking anyone's whole identity. Feels like sometimes people overcomplicate this stuff when really it's just about having a regular conversation with your family.
