Back in maybe 2012 my uncle sat at his kitchen table in Des Moines and told me that checking sources before sharing a story "takes the fun out of it," then two minutes later he passed me his phone with an article about a 300 pound cat that turned out to be a photoshop job from a site called something like Daily Hoax. I pulled up the original image on my laptop right there and showed him, and he just shrugged and said the cat was still funny, which honestly bugged me more than the fake article itself. How do you get through to folks who agree a story is bunk but still share it because it made them smile?
