Can we talk about that $130 Amazon air quality monitor that claimed my house was toxic?
I bought a cheap air quality monitor after seeing a viral TikTok claiming 9 out of 10 homes have dangerous VOC levels. Mine showed "hazardous" readings in my living room within 10 minutes, so I panicked and dropped another $200 on air purifiers. Turns out the sensor was just reacting to the alcohol in my hand sanitizer and the lemon cleaner I used that morning. I tested it outside in the yard and it still read "poor" because humidity throws off those cheap sensors. The video that scared me had 1.2 million likes and zero mentions that these $80 sensors are basically toys. Before you panic over a viral air quality claim, check if the person is selling something or just filming a screaming device. Has anyone else gotten fake red alerts from one of these monitors?
