That viral $2,000 catfish video from Missouri, I actually know the guy who filmed it
The 40 second clip floating around last week was cut down from a 6 minute video, and the part where the fish weighed 118 pounds was filmed at a pay lake in Missouri, not a wild river like the caption says. The before and after shots of the same fisherman are actually from two different trips three years apart, and the guy admits it in a comment with 12 likes that nobody read. Does anyone else check the upload date before they share these, or is it just me?

How many of these viral clips are just chopped up old footage that nobody bothers to fact check? I see the same thing with those "caught on camera" videos and the feel good stories that get passed around on Facebook. People share first and think later because the share button takes one second and checking takes five minutes. A guy buried a comment saying it was two different trips and it got 12 likes, that tells you everything about how this stuff spreads. We all want the cool story to be true so bad that we skip the part where it isn't.
