Can we talk about the 3-second staple gun fix for wobbly bookshelves?

My cheap particleboard shelf from 2019 started sagging in the middle last month, and I was ready to drop $80 on a new one. A buddy who builds sets for community theater said to flip it over, squirt wood glue into the joint gaps, and drive in 6 heavy-duty staples down the seam. I used a $15 Arrow manual stapler I had in the garage, let it dry overnight, and the shelf holds my full cookbook stack with zero flex now. Has anyone else tried furniture staples as a structural fix, or is this just a stage-prop hack that’s gonna fail in a year?

@quinnm77 probably used that same stapler to fix a chair I sat on at a friend's wedding, thing held up through the entire reception.

Wait, does your buddy also build those fake bookshelves for TV shows where they're just painted plywood? Because my friend did the same staple trick on his laundry room shelf, the one holding detergent jugs and a giant vinegar bottle, and that thing outlived his last two relationships. He used way more staples than you, maybe 15 down each seam, and he also clamped the boards together while it dried. Six months later he moved and the shelf was still solid enough that he gave it to the new tenant instead of tossing it. I'd say you're fine for a year, just keep an eye on the corners where the particleboard likes to chip.
