Had to pick between a cheap UV flashlight and a mid-range one for checking counterfeits at work
I went with the $25 one from a hardware brand and it totally missed the fake $20 bill the $60 one caught on the first try - anyone else find that spending more on stuff like that actually saves time?

The $25 one just wanted you to stay friends with that fake bill, I guess. Seriously though, cheap UV lights are basically toys with a purple glow. Mine missed a counterfeit so bad it even lit up the watermark on a real bill wrong. You pay for the actual wavelength and brightness, not just a fancier case. The expensive one basically screams "fake" like a smoke detector with a personal vendetta. Sometimes you just gotta spend a little extra to save yourself the extra headache.

A fake bill lit up the watermark on a real one wrong? That's wild. I didn't even know that could happen. Makes you wonder how many real twenties that thing flagged as fake before you figured it out. Sounds like it was just guessing. Bet the guy who sold it to you was real proud of that purple glow too. What store did you even find that piece of junk at?
