Shoutout to the barista who called me out on my oat milk habit
I was at a shop in Portland last week ordering my usual oat milk latte when the barista stopped me and said 'you know oat milk has more sugar than whole milk, right?' Looked it up later and she was right about 2 extra grams per cup. Anyone else had a food or drink habit blown up by a random stranger with facts?

Guessing that oat milk has way less protein though, so the sugar hit is kind of the tradeoff if you're not getting it from dairy. Plus I feel like the type of sugar matters more than the raw number but I haven't looked into it.

The type of sugar thing is actually pretty important. Oat milk usually has maltose instead of regular table sugar, and it hits your system differently since its a more complex carb chain. The protein difference is massive though, like oat milk has maybe 3g per serving while dairy has 8-9g, so if you're using it as a meal replacement or post workout drink you're definitely losing out. Plus the fiber in oats gets stripped out during processing so you're not getting that benefit either. I figure if you're just using a splash in coffee the tradeoff doesnt matter much, but if you're drinking glasses of it or using it in smoothies the math changes completely.

That oat milk sugar thing got me too... @jordan_henderson13 I feel the same way about the protein tradeoff being the bigger issue for me.
