The $300 telescope that showed me nothing but my neighbor's roof
Bought a fancy reflector scope last spring in Denver, spent 3 nights aligning it, and the best view I got was a cracked shingle two houses over. Clouds rolled in every time I set it up, and by August the mirror needed collimation I couldn't figure out. Anyone else sunk real money into stargazing gear that just became an expensive dust collector?

@charles836 my buddy Tim's scope showed him his own eye after the eyepiece slipped. He gave up too.

I get the frustration, but I've had a totally different run with mine. A cheap 4.5 inch scope in the suburbs showed me Jupiter's bands and the moon's craters clear as day, so maybe the gear isn't the whole story.
