Those cheap motor oil filters from the auto parts store almost killed my engine after a trip to Flagstaff

I ran a Fram orange can for 3,000 miles on my 2011 Civic. Checked the oil and found metal shavings on the dipstick. Switched to a Wix filter and the pressure went back to normal, no shavings after that. Anyone else have a filter brand that secretly wrecked their engine?

Heart dropped reading this. Metal shavings on the dipstick from a Fram filter? That's terrifying. I always heard the orange cans were just basic but not dangerous. Good thing you caught it when you did, because that could have scored up your bearing surfaces real bad.

Switched to a Wix filter after seeing the same thing on my old truck's dipstick. @zara_sanchez I did a full oil change twice back to back to flush the system out, then ran a cheap oil for 500 miles before switching to my normal stuff. No more shavings after that, so I'm guessing the Fram was the issue all along. That orange can design is just asking for trouble with those cardboard end caps.

Cardboard end caps? That can't be right.
