Vent: I laughed at my sister's VO2 max obsession on her watch, then I saw my own number
For two months I made fun of my sister in Boise for checking her Garmin every morning like it was a stock ticker. Then she strapped it on me after a slow 2 mile walk and my number came back at 31, which put me in the bottom group for my age. I still think the daily readiness scores are junk, but the base number itself turned out to be real enough that I started walking hills 4 days a week. Anyone else get humbled by a gadget they were busy mocking?
The part about the daily readiness scores being junk is dead on. Those things change based on how you slept or if you had a beer the night before. But the base number does not lie. It took me a while to get that the number is just a starting point, not a grade. Once you stop treating it like a report card and start using it as a rough map, it gets a lot more useful. Sounds like you already figured that out with the hill walks.
