After 3 years of painting desert homes, I just realized I've been sanding my stucco wrong the whole time.

A contractor walked by my job last week, watched me sand a patch, and asked if I was trying to polish the wall, so now I'm wondering how many other little things I've been messing up for that long.

Honestly, don't beat yourself up over it. Everyone has that one job where they realize they've been doing something the hard way for years. Stucco's tricky because it looks simple but the prep work is everything.

3 coats is the standard but that third coat needs to be really thin or it'll crack... I learned that one the hard way on a garage job last summer.

Whoa wait, garage job? You mean you actually stuccoed the inside of a garage? With three coats? That had to be brutal. I can't imagine working in a space that tight with a trowel, especially with the third coat going on. Did you have any ventilation at all in there? The dust alone from mixing would be enough to drive me crazy. And then curing it must have been a nightmare with all the moisture. I give you a lot of credit for even attempting that.
