Caulking trick for adobe cracks that actually holds up
Tried using regular silicone caulk on my adobe wall cracks and it peeled off after two weeks in the heat. Switched to a mortar-based patching compound mixed with a little acrylic bonding agent and it's been solid for 6 months now. Anyone else dealing with adobe shrinkage around windows?

82 percent humidity in Phoenix last summer made my regular latex caulk look like dried out play doh in 3 days. I actually switched back to good old fashioned silicone after trying the mortar mix because the mortar cracked again in a week flat on my window frames. That acrylic bonding agent works fine for interior patches but on exterior south facing walls the UV hits different and the mortar just goes brittle again. Your best bet is to just let the adobe breathe and not fight it with modern caulks that can't handle the thermal expansion.
