Electrical panel fried after a haboob in Phoenix
Last August I was rewiring a guest casita in Ahwatukee and the storm hit around 4pm. Dust got into the main breaker box through a tiny gap in the conduit. Whole house lost power, not just the new circuit I was running. I called my electrician buddy and he said the sand acted like sandpaper on the contacts. We had to replace the panel, cost me $1,800 and two days of work. Now I tape plastic sheeting over any open electrical box before a dust storm. Has anyone else had sand damage on outdoor rated gear? I thought it was sealed.

Man, sand in a sealed box? That's wild.
