My neighbor in Phoenix told me I was sealing my stucco wrong for years

I used to just hose down my stucco walls every spring with that big box store sealer. But my neighbor Mike, who does this for a living, saw me doing it and laughed. He said I needed to mist the wall first with a spray bottle, then roll the sealer on in thin coats. I tried his way last weekend on my back patio wall, and the color actually stayed even instead of looking splotchy. Has anyone else been told they were using the wrong application method for stucco sealer?

So does misting first help the sealer soak in more evenly instead of just sitting on top? I've always wondered why some sealed walls look blotchy in the sun, and that would explain it. It makes sense to get the surface damp so it doesn't suck up the sealer too fast in one spot. I'm going to try this method next time for sure.

Always thought spraying was fine, but misting first is a total game-changer.

Used to think one heavy coat was fine but misting first really does make it look way better.
