The day my swamp cooler dumped water through the ceiling in Tucson

I was up on my roof in mid July checking the swamp cooler because it sounded off. The water line had a crack I didn't see and it flooded the pads so bad water poured down inside the wall. By the time I got downstairs there was a wet spot the size of a dinner plate on the living room ceiling. I cut out the drywall and ran a fan for three days before patching it back up. Has anybody else had a swamp cooler leak cause more damage than you expected?

my buddy had this happen in his place in Phoenix a few years back. he was up there messing with the pump and the drain line got clogged, water just backed up and soaked through the whole ceiling in his hallway. it took out like a 4 foot section of drywall and his light fixture started dripping brown water for days. he had to rip out the insulation and treat for mold before patching it lol.

Honestly that brown water dripping is the real nightmare, comes with that nice moldy smell you can't get out of the carpet for weeks. Ngl fixing the drywall is the easy part, it's the hidden moisture spreading through the ceiling joists that'll get you. Tbh swamp coolers are just fancy water balloons waiting to pop in July.

Buddy of mine in Mesa had water pour out of his bathroom vent fan after his cooler overflowed.
