TIL the local hardware store in Tucson has a whole section for desert paint colors
I stopped by Ace Hardware on Speedway last week looking for exterior paint. The guy there showed me a display of colors specially made for desert homes, like light tans and whites that reflect heat. He said dark colors can make your walls crack in the summer sun here. I ended up picking a shade called "Desert Sand" and it's already keeping my place cooler. Has anyone else tried these special paint lines for their desert house?

I live in Tucson and my first summer here I painted my shed a dark brown. The next morning it looked like a dried out river bed, cracks everywhere. Learned that lesson real quick.

Oh man yeah that desert paint thing is wild. It's kinda funny how so many things out here have this hidden rulebook you just gotta learn the hard way. Like with cars too - everyone parks facing a certain direction at the store so your dashboard doesn't get wrecked by the sun, or you learn real fast not to leave a water bottle on the seat unless you want a hot plastic smell for a week. The whole town is basically one big lesson in "the sun will mess you up if you let it.

@phoenix_singh25 nailed it with that hidden rulebook, same thing happened to my patio furniture last summer.
