Took me 8 months to figure out why my stucco kept cracking
I repainted the south wall of my Tucson house three times and every time it cracked within weeks. Turns out I was using regular exterior paint instead of elastomeric paint that actually expands in the heat. Has anyone else dealt with paint failures they blamed on their own skills?

@sammartinez I learned the hard way with three coats of regular paint before a guy at Sherwin Williams took pity on me. The south wall in Phoenix hit 145 degrees at the surface in July and regular paint just doesn't stretch. I switched to a Sherwin Williams elastomeric product and it's been good for two summers now. You gotta let the old paint dry out completely too or it'll bubble underneath. That stuff is thick like pancake batter but it works.

Man, that's frustrating. So did you figure out the elastomeric paint thing on your own or did someone finally tip you off? I bet that south wall gets hammered by the sun all afternoon out there in Tucson.

Yeah, the south wall here gets cooked too. Ended up just going with a thick coat of elastomeric and it held up fine.
