Changed my mind on using the same oil for every diesel engine
I kept seeing guys at the shop just grab the 15W-40 jug for everything, from old farm tractors to new pickups. Figured it was fine. Then we had a 2021 Duramax come in with a sticky turbo actuator. The owner said he'd been using that same oil. Checked the manual, it specifically calls for a low-ash CK-4. The wrong stuff can clog up the newer emission systems. Anyone else run into this with the latest models?

Yeah, my buddy's new Powerstroke had the same issue with the wrong oil.

Ugh, it's like nobody takes pride in just doing the job right anymore. My local tire shop put the wrong air pressure in all four tires last month, just slapped on whatever. Same with the kid at the coffee shop who can't be bothered to steam the milk hot enough. It's all just... close enough. Makes you have to double-check everything yourself, which is exhausting.

That's a real headache. Dealers messing up the oil happens more than you'd think. I always check the fill cap and my receipt before leaving the lot now. The wrong weight can mess with the turbo and fuel system over time. It's worth making them do a full flush and putting the right stuff in.
