Found the actual torque spec for injector hold-downs in a 15-year-old service bulletin

I was digging through old Cummins bulletins last night and found out the torque spec for ISX injector hold-downs was quietly updated to 96 ft-lbs back in 2008, not the 90 everyone still uses. Has anyone else run into head cracking issues from the old spec?

Quietly updated" is exactly the problem. I've been running 90 ft-lbs on ISX injectors for years without a single head crack. 96 seems aggressive. You're tightening into aluminum after all. I've seen more issues from people over-tightening and stripping threads than from the old spec. Unless you're running a high-horsepower build, I'd stick with 90 and call it a day.

Yeah thats a really good point and I feel you on that one! The old spec has been working fine for so many people for years, it feels weird to just bump it up like that without a solid reason. Getting a stripped thread in that aluminum is a nightmare to fix, way worse than a slightly loose injector. Ive definitely seen more guys regret going too tight than leaving it at 90. Its just one of those changes that feels like it was made for a very specific situation that most of us arent even in.

That kinda reminds me of how everything around us is slowly getting "improved" when it wasn't really broken in the first place... like phone updates that make your battery worse or recipe changes that ruin a good thing. Sometimes the old way just works and there's no shame in sticking with it.
