I just read that a single grain of sand can cause over $10,000 in damage to a modern diesel fuel injector.

Found that in a technical bulletin from a major engine manufacturer, and it makes me think our filtration standards are still playing catch-up. Anyone else run into a crazy expensive failure from a tiny contaminant?

Wow, that's a scary price tag for a speck of dirt.

Right? It's wild what some of these places charge for basically nothing. Saw a tiny apartment last month going for way too much, and the fridge didn't even close all the way. Makes you wonder what they're thinking with these prices.

Pat's got a point about the price being scary, but calling a whole apartment a speck of dirt feels a bit harsh. Even a tiny shoebox of a place costs a fortune because land and labor aren't free, plus the building materials went up like crazy the last few years. That fridge that won't close for a thousand bucks a month is a different story though, that's just negligence. But the actual price tag mostly reflects the location and market, not the square footage. So yeah, it's too much, but it's not like they're selling literal dust.
