I thought those fancy synthetic oils for my 6.7 Powerstroke were just a waste of money until I saw the oil analysis after 10,000 miles.

Switched to synthetic and my engine runs quieter now.

Doubt a single oil analysis proves much of anything. Those reports are basically marketing material for the lab, they want you to keep buying tests. A good conventional oil changed on time has kept engines running for decades. You're just paying for a fancy label and a warmer feeling in your wallet when it's empty.

Got me there, my wallet definitely feels warmer and lighter. I ran those tests for two years on my old truck, convinced I was a mechanical genius. Turns out the only thing it proved was I'm great at spending money to learn my oil was... oil. Still, watching those metal particle counts not go up was weirdly comforting, like a security blanket for people who worry about piston rings.
