My friend's acetone experiment left my diesel knocking

My buddy said adding acetone to diesel would clean the injectors and add power. I let him do it to keep peace, and now my truck has a constant knock at low speeds. Ever get bad advice from someone who isn't a mechanic? How do you handle it without causing a fuss?

Yeah, Dave's story is a classic warning. I had to learn the hard way like @tarahall said, but a real mechanic got it fixed.

How bad is the damage? Yeah, @taylor501 is right, that's why you never let a friend play chemist with your engine.
