My recent close call with a mis-fueled diesel engine

Last month, a customer brought their diesel truck in for rough running. We thought it was a filter problem, but we wasted hours before finding gasoline in the tank. The shop lost money because we didn't ask about their last fill-up. Now I always check fuel history right away. It stopped another awkward chat with a client just last week.

Wasn't there a big article last year about diesel engines getting gasoline by mistake? I remember it said that lots of breakdowns are from wrong fuel, and it wastes a lot of shop time. They talked about how diesel pumps have smaller nozzles to stop this, but some people still make them fit. Your story is just like that. Smart move to check fuel history now!

The article you mentioned, was it from a specific magazine or website? I recall reading something similar in Consumer Reports, but they focused on rental cars. Do you know if there's any data on whether newer diesel models have better safeguards against this?

That fuel history check saved us too when a regular's car started acting weird. We figured out their kid put the wrong fuel in before bringing it over.
