Spent 5 hours chasing a ghost injector issue on an 05 Cummins

Had this 5.9 in the shop last Tuesday, rough idle but no codes. Pulled my hair out for hours checking fuel pressure, swapping sensors, even pulled the valve cover to look at the rockers. Turned out to be a chafed wire on the injector harness under the intake horn, took maybe 20 minutes to fix once I spotted it. Anyone else ever wasted a whole day on something dumb like wiring instead of a real mechanical problem?

...and thats exactly why my shop rule is "check the simple stuff first, no matter how stupid it sounds." The number of times I've seen guys pull turbos or tear into the bottom end over a loose ground strap is ridiculous. Wiring gremlins are like life's way of keeping you humble. You can know everything about fuel systems and injection timing, but a chafed wire or a corroded pin will make you look like a total amateur in front of your own toolbox. Its honestly the same pattern with anything these days, from my lawn mower to the house AC. The fancy expensive parts are rarely the problem. Its always the junk that should have been easy that tries to ruin your whole week.

Buddy of mine spent three days chasing a no-start on a 12 valve. Pulled the pump, sent it out for testing, timing cover off twice. Finally called me over and I spotted a ground wire on the back of the head that was barely hanging on by a few strands. Snugged it up and it fired right up. He wasn't even mad, just sat there staring at the engine bay for a solid minute.

84B pin 11 on the ECM connector. Found that one the hard way on a 24 valve. @wader71 is right, the simple stuff will humble you every time.
