That old timer at the shop told me to use ATF in my injector pump and it actually worked
He swore by a quart of Dexron III in the fuel tank every 3,000 miles to keep the plungers lubed on my 7.3 Powerstroke, and after 6 months of doing it the injector stutter is completely gone has anyone else heard of this trick?

David in Ohio ran Dexron III in his 1996 F-250 for about two years before his injection pump gave out and the shop told him it was from the ATF eating the seals from the inside out. The ATF trick is a band-aid that works until it doesn't, and then you're out a $1,200 pump instead of a $8 bottle of fuel additive. But hey, if you like living on the edge and don't mind your fuel filter turning into a syrup dispenser by mile 2,000, then by all means keep dumping transmission fluid in your tank. I'll stick with Power Service and keep my injectors happy without the extra transmission fluid surprise.

Every fill up or every other tank"? That seems like a lot of ATF. I'd be worried about the fuel filter turning into a jelly donut after a few tanks of that.

Saying "every 3,000 miles" is a bit off for that trick, it's usually more like every fill up or every other tank. The ATF in the fuel thing is legit though, I've ran it in my old Cummins for years. Just make sure you're not using Type F or any of the newer low viscosity ATFs, stick with Dexron III or even better, a dedicated diesel fuel additive like Stanadyne or Power Service.
