Hit 100 downloads on my latest piece and it totally flipped my thinking
I always figured numbers didn't matter much for my art. I just post stuff I like and move on. But last week my latest digital painting crossed 100 downloads on a free art site. That's way more than my usual 15 or 20. It got me thinking maybe I need to pay more attention to what people actually respond to. The one that hit was a moody forest scene with weird lighting, not my usual bright stuff. Has anyone else had a random piece blow up for no clear reason?

Tracking numbers too much can kill the joy of making art for its own sake.

Actually Ray hit on something real here (not to disagree too much), but I think the real killer is when you start comparing your numbers to other people. That's the part that really sucks the joy out, not just checking your own stats once in a while.

Morgan, you put your finger right on something important. It's one thing to track your own work to see if you're improving, but when you start peeking at someone else's follower count or sales numbers, it's like you can feel the air leave the room. That comparison game is what turns what should be a personal creative journey into a competition nobody really wins. It's hard enough to stay motivated without measuring your own progress against someone who might be at a totally different place in their career. Just my two cents from someone who has definitely been there.
