I think the 'no AI art' rule at the local gallery show was a mistake

I was at the Riverside Digital Arts Fair last month, ready to submit a piece I made using a mix of my own painting and an AI tool for texture ideas. The judge took one look at my process notes, said 'AI-assisted' and moved my work to a separate, tiny side room. It felt like being sent to the corner. I spent over 40 hours on that piece, and the AI part was just for generating background patterns I then painted over from scratch. The rule was too broad and punished artists using new tools thoughtfully, not to replace skill. Has anyone else had their hybrid work dismissed like this?

I actually think that "no AI art" rule makes sense for a traditional gallery show. It keeps the focus on purely handmade work.

Seriously, it's just a local art show though.

Totally get that, I saw one last month that was pretty underwhelming too.
