Showerthought: The shift from clean 3D to messy digital painting feels like a real moment
Three years ago, my feed was all smooth, perfect 3D models. Last month, I saw a piece from an artist in Portland that was all messy brush strokes and texture, and it just clicked. Has anyone else noticed this style getting way more popular lately?

Wasn't there a big article about this being a reaction to AI art?

Spot that Portland artist's work all over now. It's like everyone got tired of the same shiny plastic look. My feed is full of paint splatters and rough edges, stuff that looks like it was made by a human hand. Feels like a push back against all the too-perfect AI stuff.

Yeah, I switched to that style last year and my engagement shot up. People just connect with the human touch more now.

Yeah, that "shiny plastic look" thing is spot on. I started using this messy watercolor filter on my photos last fall and people actually started asking if I painted them myself. It's crazy how just adding some rough edges can make things feel more real and get more likes.
