Switching from a mouse to a drawing tablet for digital art felt impossible at first

I used to sketch everything with a mouse, clicking and dragging for hours. Last month I finally tried a Wacom Intuos and realized I can draw curves naturally instead of fighting with straight lines. Has anyone else struggled with getting used to the hand-eye coordination issue?

Did your friend try holding the pen at a different angle? My buddy Mike started using a Huion tablet last year and he kept drawing jagged lines for two weeks. He got so frustrated he almost threw the thing across the room. Then he realized he was gripping the pen way too tight and his hand was hovering instead of resting on the tablet. Loosening up and letting his palm touch the surface made everything click for him.

Huh, I never thought about the hovering thing. I always assumed you had to keep your hand up to avoid smudging or something, but hearing how it messed up Mike's lines makes total sense. This actually might help me stop hating my drawing tablet so much.

Man, that hovering thing is a killer. I never understood why people put up with it. So did Mike figure out his own fix, or did someone have to tell him to just rest his hand on the tablet? Seems like basic stuff, but I guess it's easy to miss when you're just starting out.
