That collector who talked over me for 10 minutes about 'real art'
Last Saturday at the city art walk downtown, I had a booth display of my digital landscapes. This older collector walks up, barely glances at the screen, and starts lecturing me that digital work isn't 'real art' because it lacks physical texture. He said if I wanted respect, I should print on canvas and add brush strokes. I stood there for 10 minutes listening to him explain why my process was lazy. What stuck with me was how he never once asked about my creative choices, he just assumed. Has anyone else dealt with a gatekeeper like that at a show, and how did you shut it down without being rude?
