Thought vector art was just lazy tracing until a guy showed me his process
I used to roll my eyes at vector portraits thinking they were just auto trace jobs. Then a friend named Jess spent 30 minutes showing me how she builds each shape by hand in Illustrator. She had like 200 layers for one face. That changed my mind completely. Has anyone else had a moment where they totally misjudged a style of art?

Totally get what you mean. Had a similar thing happen with pixel art actually (thought it was just old school nostalgia bait). A friend doing a tiny 32x32 sprite showed me how every single pixel placement matters for expression, like one off shade on the eye changes the whole mood. Watching her zoom in and tweak individual dots for an hour made me realize how much deliberate skill goes into it. Really humbling to see the process behind the final piece.

Yeah I thought vectors were just fancy stickers until I tried making one myself and ended up with a wonky triangle.
