Finally caved and deleted my 47 unused browser extensions last night
I always figured keeping them around didn't hurt anything, but after my laptop started taking 5 minutes to boot up for no reason, I tried it and now it's actually snappy again. Anyone else notice a real difference after trimming that junk off?.

Bullshit. I've got 30 something extensions right now and my laptop boots in under a minute. Most of that boot time crap is from startup programs and Windows update junk, not extensions sitting in Chrome. @wells.christopher is right that disabled ones barely use anything, but people blame extensions for everything when their real problem is they installed 47 toolbars and McAfee trialware. You probably cleaned up more than just extensions and that's what made the difference. Half those extensions are just sitting there using zero cpu until you actually open the browser anyway.

47! man i had like 12 and thought i was out of control. 47 is insane haha. my boot time dropped from like 4 minutes to 30 seconds after i finally cleaned house. those extensions just sit there eating ram even when they're disabled i swear. honestly i bet half of them were things i installed once for some random website in 2019 and forgot about. feels good to get rid of the clutter though.
